Race Classes

Amateur Race Classes & Rules:

All of our regular amateur events are AMA-sanctioned and pay GLMX points. Having a current AMA membership before you get to the track will save a lot of time, but you can join at registration if needed. You can also join GLMX at the track.

Riders under 18 must bring a parent or LEGAL guardian to registration. Aunts, uncles, older siblings, etc. are usually not LEGAL guardians. If your parents can’t attend an event, they need to send a NOTARIZED consent form that authorizes another adult to be your legal guardian for the weekend. Here’s a sample guardian assignment letter:

I [PARENT’s name] give my son, [SON’s name] permission to ride motocross at RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan. I assign [Adult’s name] as [SON’s name]’s temporary legal guardian on [DATE(S)], with authorization to read and sign registration and liability forms required as [SON’s name]’s legal guardian. In addition, I authorize [Adult’s name] to give emergency medical consent for the treatment of [SON’s name] should it be needed.

We can use the same notarized consent form for an entire race weekend as long as the dates are correct on the form.

Get the AMA Annual Release form and you won’t have to fill out a Minor Release at any AMA events all year! But remember, these are only good at AMA events, which do NOT include Open Riding or Practice days.

AMA will send you a card saying your annual release is on file; just show it at the track when you register.
Download the form, print it IN COLOR or it will not be accepted, fill it out completely, get it notarized and mail to:

For youth classes, your age on January 1 applies for the whole year.  For example, a 15-year-old who turns 16 on March 1 can still race the 85 12-15 class for the entire season (because he was 15 on January 1).  However, once you move up to the next age level class, you cannot move back down.

For Vet classes, your age on race day applies. You can ride a class as soon as you become eligible, but not before.

KTM Kids Track Classes (50 Track)

All participants on the KTM Kids Track receive trophy, plaque or medal awards.

Note: On pro national weekend, these classes do not race or practice on the pro track; they are only included in the night track events.
